A first-of-its-kind Zhabdrung‑Themed NFT Project

A first-of-its-kind Zhabdrung‑Themed NFT Project

Each year, on Zhabdrung Kuchoe—the 10th day of the fourth lunar month—Bhutan pauses to honour Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, the unifier of the nation and architect of its spiritual identity.

In that same spirit of reverence and renewal, the Department of Culture and Dzongkha Development (DCDD), Ministry of Home Affairs, Druk Holding & Investments’ InnoTech Department (DHI), and the Government Technology Agency (GovTech) are proud to announce the launch of the Bhutan NFT Project—a groundbreaking initiative that bridges cultural heritage with cutting-edge technology.

Launch Collection: Zhabdrung Phunsum Tshogpa Thangka

At the heart of the inaugural drop is a rare 18th-century thangka of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. Digitised during a recent hackathon led by the Museum Division (DCDD) and GovTech, this sacred image embodies Bhutanese unity, devotion, and resilience—timeless values now brought to life on the blockchain.

Preserving Heritage Through Innovation

Each NFT( Non-Fungible Token) will serve as a permanent digital archive, safeguarding Bhutan’s cultural heritage while sharing them with the world. Proceeds will support the digitisation of more artifacts, the restoration of heritage sites, and the nurturing of community arts—ensuring the project’s cultural and financial sustainability.
