Flag hoisting ceremony at the National Museum
The National Museum of Bhutan, Paro witnessed the sacred Lhadar (ལྷ་དར) hoisting and Rabney or consecration, a moment of profound
cultural and spiritual significance.
The Lhadar, known as the “Flag of Gods,” is a revered symbol adorned with the five colors representing the five elements and the five wisdoms of the Buddha. Its pinnacle, a full victory banner, shines with golden hues, signifying triumph and blessings.
This special flag is hoisted only at entrances of structures housing the sacred sixteen-volume scriptures on the perfection of wisdom. Before being raised, the flag undergoes meticulous rituals of purification, including lhasang and thruesol, with incense and blessings from the Lama to invoke the enlightened forces to dwell within it.
As the flag waves near the museum, it stands as a beacon of Bhutan's enduring spiritual and cultural heritage.
